Are you possibly planning or have booked a trip abroad and are seeking travel health advice?
This enables us to ensure we give you the recommended vaccines, any necessary malaria tablets (if you are travelling to a malarious region) and the advice most appropriate for your needs. This can be downloaded and printed out (click here for a copy of the form) or collected from the surgery. Please also contact the surgery for the first available travel appointment to be seen by one of the nurses in the practice who undertake travel consultations.
If you need any vaccinations, these MAY be given on this visit but this CANNOT be guaranteed, it all depends on the outcome of the risk assessment review within this first appointment.
We would encourage people to plan well in advance of their trip to allow time to complete any protection that may be given.
Under the services a GP provides for travel, there is an obligation to give vaccines to provide protection against hepatitis A, typhoid, polio, cholera for many destinations and dependant on the risk assessment plus the travel advice free of charge. However, here at Axbridge and Wedmore Medical Practice we are pleased to be able to offer a more specialist service with a greater choice of vaccines you may require, for example rabies or yellow fever which you would otherwise have to travel to a private travel clinic for. These vaccines are not free on the NHS and we have to make a charge.
